About Us

Petersburg Area Art League (PAAL) is a nonprofit community arts organization dedicated to empowering the region through accessible visual arts programming. Founded in 1932, PAAL operates gallery spaces and an art education center in historic Old Towne Petersburg, where it showcases local and regional artists, hosts exhibitions, and offers creative opportunities for people of all ages and experience levels.

Today, PAAL serves as a cultural hub for the community, presenting rotating monthly exhibitions, hands-on classes and workshops, and public events that encourage participation and artistic exploration. The organization also partners with local initiatives such as the citywide “Friday for the Arts,” hosting exhibition openings and welcoming visitors to experience the arts in an inclusive, free environment.

In addition to gallery programming, PAAL is expanding its community outreach through outdoor events, family-friendly programming, and seasonal initiatives. This includes the return of its summer concert series, “Play in the Park,” which brings live music, local artists, and community activities together in an open-air setting designed to increase access to the arts and foster community connection.

Through exhibitions, education, and community-centered events, PAAL continues to grow its impact—supporting local artists, strengthening regional culture, and creating welcoming opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with the arts.
