John Randolph Foundation Names New Trustees & Officers

HOPEWELL, VA, MARCH 14, 2023 – John Randolph Foundation is pleased to welcome four new trustees to the Board - Derrick A. Johnson,  Hal B. Miles, Sr., Luis Pedraza,  and Dana L. Rieves – and a new slate of elected officers. As we welcome these new community leaders, we also bid farewell to long-time volunteers whose service on the Board made a tremendous difference.

Derrick A. Johnson is a civil engineer and partner with Timmons Group. A graduate of Prince George High School and the Virginia Military Institute, Derrick is active in the community and has served as president of the Hopewell/Prince George Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Prince George Industrial Development Authority, and Bishop of the Hopewell Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has been married to his wife Jacqueline for 34 years, and they have two children. As a member of the JRF Board of Trustees, Derrick will continue his many years of volunteer service in the community.

Hal B. Miles, Sr. is a retired Chemist and Plant Production Manager from Honeywell and Evonik-Goldschimdt respectively. Hal is a graduate of Virginia State University with Graduate and Advanced Studies from VSU, VCU, U of R, and J. Sargeant Reynolds’ Community College. He is an avid youth mentor, medaled wrestling coach, and is active in his community as a life member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc, Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, current Vice-Chair for Virginia School Board Association Southside Region, and current elected School Board member to Petersburg City Public Schools.

Luis Pedraza and his wife Carmen relocated to Prince George in July 2010 with three children and quickly fell in love with the community. Luis is the owner of Luca Italian Restaurant and Morelia Mexican Restaurant in Prince George. He is also part owner of several other restaurants in the surrounding areas and has an entrepreneurial spirit. A big community supporter, during the pandemic Luis provided over 400 free meals to the community twice a week from both restaurants. Together, he and his wife have done so much for families and neighbors in times of need as well as being strong financial supporters to local schools. He is excited to contribute further as part of the JRF Board of Trustees.

Dana L. Rieves is a retired power industry professional, spending 32 years at Cogentrix and retiring from AdvanSix. A graduate of Indiana State University, she has been a strong community volunteer serving as Campaign Chair for Hopewell-Prince George United Way, Ambassador for the Hopewell/Prince George Chamber of Commerce, a member of Hopewell and Prince George Local Emergency Planning Committees, Community Emergency Response Team, and Virginia Energy Workforce Consortium. Dana is a proud member of the Rotary Club of Prince George County, where she was named Rotarian of the Year.
