Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade
We are excited to announce the inaugural Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade in Petersburg, Va. which will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. This event will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday as a National Day of Service. The parade will begin on Pocahontas Island, then crossing the MLK, Jr. Bridge going into Petersburg, and continuing up to Franklin Street.
This special day honors the life and legacy of Dr. King, whose leadership in the civil rights movement and dedication to achieving racial equality through nonviolent means have left an enduring impact. Established as a federal holiday in 1983 and first observed on January 20, 1986, Martin Luther King Day has become a time to reflect on his work and engage in service that strengthens our communities.
We invite you to join us in this meaningful celebration by participating in the parade. Parade check-in will begin at 7:00 a.m., no later than 8:00 am on Pocahontas Island. Upon arrival, you will be directed to the number that corresponds with your entry.
