10-03-2024 Petersburg, Virginia

OFFICE OF THE SHERIFF PRESS RELEASE

The Petersburg Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce that they were awarded their initial accreditation from the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC) at the annual VALEAC Conference in Lynchburg. The department had to show compliance to 192 standards. A four person assessment team came to the Sheriff’s Office on July 23rd for a three-day event to measure department’s policies against accreditation standards, verify all proofs of compliance, conduct agency and static display tours of areas of the Sheriff’s Office purview, ride along with the Civil Process division, and meetings with Sheriff Vanessa R. Crawford and her Accreditation Manager, Lieutenant Chris Bailey. This is an extremely proud moment for Sheriff Crawford as she congratulated Lt. Bailey and the entire staff for the teamwork that everyone displayed during the accreditation process. The VLEPSC Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to grant the department its initial accreditation. The agency was presented their Accreditation certificate during the October 15th City Council meeting. Present to present the award was the Honorable Steve Draper, Sheriff of the City of Martinsville and Vice-Chairman of the VLEPSC Commission, Todd Clingenpeel, Program Director for the Department of Criminal Justice Services, and Retired Chief Bobby Mawyer with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and member of the VALEAC Board of Directors.
